Kuwait Towers
Nestled on the Arabian Gulf Road in Sharq District, Kuwait Towers is one of the most prominent landmarks of Kuwait. Designed by a Swedish architectural firm, the towers opened in 1979, and comprises of two major towers and a minor tower. The largest tower rises to 187m, and houses a two-level revolving observation deck, gift shop and cafe.
Liberation Tower
The Liberation Tower is the second tallest structure in Kuwait at a height of 372m. The construction of the tower commenced before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and was then meant to be called the Kuwait Telecommunication Tower. Upon completion in 1993, the tower was renamed the Liberation Tower, symbolizing Kuwait’s liberation from Iraq.
The Grand Mosque
The Grand Mosque is the largest and the official mosque in the country of Kuwait. Located in the heart of the city opposite Sief Palace, the mosque is also called Al-Masjid Al-Kabir. The Grand Mosque has traditional Islamic architecture and boasts of Kuwait’s highest minaret (74m) and can accommodate up to 5000 worshippers in the main hall, with room for another 7000 in the courtyard.
